Eating update!

A true test of will power is when company comes into town and all the yummy food is spread out because whats one of the most fun things to do when a bunch of family is around? That's right.....EAT!!

I was doing so good. I was watching my calorie intake. I still have not incorporated exercise but my eating habits were good. They were good until family came that is. Last night we had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and (drum roll please) strawberry cheesecake. Now I didn't do that bad but I was disappointed in myself none the less. I took my Alli pill, ate two pieces of fried chicken and about a half cup of mashed potatoes and gravy, then sat back and watched everyone dig into the cheesecake.

I was doing good, I was thinking clearly until that dang cheesecake started talking to me. I didn't even know it could talk until it said "EAT ME!" I lost all sense of self control and dug my fork in and took a large bite. My best friend looked at me and said "would you like me to cut you a piece?" I knew I was in trouble so I got up and walked away from the table and told her no thank you.

I long for the day that I can have that piece of cheesecake and have it be OK but I am not there yet. If I ate the one piece then it would have given me permission to eat two pieces. I am still learning about moderation and when to say no, so until I do, the cheesecake is out. (can I cry now?)

Does anyone else get sad that they cant eat like everyone else? I actually feel sorry for myself because I cant enjoy food the way I used to. I keep telling myself that food is still enjoyable but just in smaller portions. Its hard to retrain my brain.

How is everyone else doing?

Yup. And that I will always have to be vigilant, never a do what you want, lifestyle in terms of eating. But I suppose, most (thinner) people don't eat half a plate of mashed potatoes and gravy. At least not in one sitting. sigh. I feel ya. Great job on walking away.

I have been really good at working out at the Ymca three times a week and for about an average of two hours. I try to fit other stuff in on the other days. When it comes to eating, I am doing way better than I used to. Sometimes, its resisting the junk food all together and other times it's choosing something that is less calories than I used to get. It's been about a month of changing my habits. I am down ten lbs but the most important part is that I don't hurt so bad. I really don't have a problem with just sticking to once slice if cheesecake or brownie but it's the having on the next day and the next day and all the other stuff that I eat. I think you should try to find some time for even just walking. I think it really helps me feel good. I think you are doing great

Carry around nuts with you. I know it doesn't compare to cheesecake....but it works for me. I have a container of mixed nuts in my purse and at my desk at work. Whenever someone brings in a plate of brownies or cookies or donuts to work (which seems like every day!) I get out my nut stash and sit and enjoy chat time, while they dig into the loaded with sugar stuff.

It gives me something to do - other than think about what I could be eating and it makes me feel strong when I win a bout of the temptation battle.

Yes it is HARD!

I just cannot get motivated to stay on track. So I am really excited to say I took my first Alli pill this morning and boy was I scared into measuring and counting. ;) Hope it lasts!!

I've lost 33 lbs. It has taken me two years which is absolutely nothing to brag about. The good news is, the only exercise I do is walking. And only when the weather is nice.

R,
When I started my weightloss journey back in 2004, I found that before the scale really moved it was inchs I lost first. Get a copy of the 30 day shred with Jillian Michaels to do at home. It will really help you shed inches. Take your measurements every two weeks. You will be surprised what you lose inch wise opposed to the scale. You can do it though! Just remember it's not about being skinny, it's a life style change. Write everything down you eat and that will help with the portions and making bad choices. If you eat it you have to write it down, you will be surprised how you can walk away from something because you don't want to have to write it down. Even if you don't write it (which is cheating yourself) your hips will tell on you, lol. Thats how I had to look at it. It took 4 years but I went from 235 to 175. You can do it!!!!
